Push yourself.

I started taking drawing classes at age nine. My studies continued through high school and into college. I had many great teachers but I taught myself a lot as well. When you are your own teacher, you have to push yourself. Otherwise, you don’t learn.
This is a study from an old sketchbook. The panel is from Uncanny X-Men 173 featuring a fight between Wolverine and The Silver Samurai. The issue was drawn by Paul Smith, who had a spectacular but short run on X-Men. Had he remained on the book longer, my interest in the comic probably wouldn’t have waned.
