Bram Stoker's Dracula

By no means a perfect work, Bram Stoker's Dracula is a definitive '90s film regardless. Criticized in 1992 for portraying Dracula as a sympathetic figure, this Francis Ford Coppola movie still gained an audience. It features some of the most visually stunning sets, costumes, and effects of its decade. Many of those effects are old school, dating back to the beginning of cinema, and have more impact than the majority of CGI techniques of the day. Though some featured performances are flawed, its easy to see why the film was cast the way that it was. Sir Anthony Hopkins is over-the-top but likable as Professor Van Helsing, but it is Gary Oldman who remains the focus of the picture through his unique and memorable approach to the character of Count Dracula. Atmospheric and scary, I still find this film enjoyable to watch.
