Black Cat

 

For hundreds of years the appearance of a black cat was a signal of misfortune for anyone whose path it crossed. Cats were commonly believed to be familiars, or conduits, for witches casting spells. I remember while in college in Boston, a local friend of mine informed me that certain pet shops in the state of Massachusetts would not sell cats on Sundays or, in some instances, on any day of the week.
